Experiencing new aromas and visiting new places, losing ourselves in shared laughter, spending time together and enjoying a fine wine are some of the activities we are looking forward to and can’t wait to resume after such long in lockdown.
Life has been put on pause and so have we, but as for the clock, that never stops, and the time has now come for us to feel life again and to experience aromas beyond our confinement, but in a calm, orderly manner and as safely as entirely possible. This is the goal of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation (FEA). Based in Évora for the last fifty-five years, the institution remains faithful to its founder’s intentions, continuing to carry out important work in favour of art and heritage preservation. As a driving force that encourages various cultural and leisure activities, while striving to contribute to the economic and social development of the region, it dedicates itself, for example, to the production of wines, such as the iconic Pêra-Manca and Cartuxa wines at the Cartuxa Winery, and to the production of olive oil at the Cartuxa olive mill.

With the economic and social challenges that the pandemic has brought about, and in a spirit of trust and hope for the future the FEA is now getting back to work and has decided to reopen to the public. All the hygiene and social distancing measures advised by the Portuguese Health Authority are being respected, so that the return to normality is done in the safest way possible.
The idea is to gather your family or friends and head for the Alentejo paradise. There, in groups of four to six people, you can visit the Quinta de Valbom (the place where the wines produced by the foundation are aged), get lost in the vineyards, learn about the history of the building where the winery was founded and taste the foundation’s oils and wines.
Awaiting you, a «quiet, chaste and dreamy...» day, as Florbela Espanca would say, «(...) looking at this landscape that is a canvas of God» and, as we would say, enjoying one of those moments that we so much need to experience what is good in life again.
