António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NAIL) was inaugurated in November, but it will be over the next few months that it will begin operating all its services.
In this first phase, NAIL is focused on the cargo segment, and it is estimated that 130,000 tonnes of goods will be transported per year. As for passenger flights, they will begin in the first quarter of 2024, initially with domestic connections and then opening up to international traffic.
Located in the municipality of Ícolo e Bengo, 42 kilometres from the centre of Luanda, the construction, valued at 2.5 billion Euros, covers an area of 75 square kilometres. It can accommodate the world’s largest commercial plane and consists of two parallel runways, a maintenance apron, an isolation apron and an aircraft parking apron. In view of the new airports opening, the 4th of February Airport will remain active and can be used for special flights and other types of flights, as well as to support possible constraints from the new construction.
