In northern Italy, in the city of canals, Venice, the Architecture Biennale will take place from May 20 to November 26, 2023. The curator is Lesley Lokko, founder of the African Futures Institute. This event will showcase the most diverse creative projects from architects around the world, while the biennale is aimed at universities, schools, professionals and art lovers.
It may be true that we are still months away from the event, but the outlines of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition, with the title and theme The Laboratory of the Future, are already beginning to be drawn. Several educational activities, including interactive tours and workshops, will be aimed at students, children, young people and adults, and others at professionals and companies.
In the view of its artistic director, The Laboratory of the Future is a portrait of Africa, where «all these questions of equity, resources, race, hope and fear converge and coalesce», stating that what happens in Africa, «happens to all of us». By this we mean the African continent, which has the youngest population in the world. And the aim of the exhibition will be to create a kind of workshop/laboratory, in which professionals and architects can give free rein to their creativity and pass on a message to the public. The idea will be to chart a course for the future for the public to imagine and to foresee what this may hold for them. Striking moments of event will be presented in the Giardini and Arsenale pavilions, as well as in Venice city centre, inviting you to get out the very best from the cultural exhibition on display there.
