Google has won at the NYCXDESIGN Awards 2022 in the Environmental Impact category, for the project concerning its first physical shop in New York. The spotlight falls on the furniture, made entirely of Portuguese cork, supplied by Corticeira Amorim, incorporating beauty, sustainability and personality, premises that govern the brand’s commercial outlet. Architecture studio Reddymade was responsible for designing the ambitious project, teaming up with designer Daniel Michalik, who used cork as the leading element of this space. Why use this material? Simple: it is one of the most sustainable elements in existence, with unique characteristics in terms of CO2 retention. Cork can be versatile and resilient, as well as light and soft.
