We are the bank that has grown most in lending to the primary sector

Chief Executive Officer of Banco BIC
Angola has agricultural potential like no other country in Southern Africa. It is estimated that, of the 35 million hectares classified as arable land, only 6 million are being exploited by the agricultural sector. The largest network of water resources is in Angola. However, more than half the population’s food needs are imported.
BIC is the bank that provides the most credit to the productive sectors of the national economy. We are currently market leaders. In 2022, we financed the real economy to the tune of more than 50 billion Kwanzas in 24 of the 30 projects presented. It could have been much more, if there had been more projects. The agricultural, industrial, fishing and mining sectors are our priorities.
The state is supporting an increase in national production, which is so necessary if we are to move away from our dependence on imports, with the creation of the PLANAGRÃO programme, but the market is highly bureaucratic in the disposal of crop and livestock products, in the mechanisation of land, in the acquisition of raw materials, such as fertilisers, inefficient transport and cold storage networks.
The Angolan population is growing at a rate of 800 000 people per year, and food reserves are not keeping up with this growth. Agriculture and livestock are the future of the population’s food well-being.
Banco BIC believes that prosperity lies in national production and strives to strengthen the capacity of national producers who present structured and viable projects. This BIC strategy is here to stay, because the bank believes in the FUTURE of Angola.
